2-Story Fire Escape Ladder

It is very likely you will experience a structure fire in your lifetime. The National Fire Protection Association has released the following statistics in an annual survey of unreported fires

• There is a one in four chance your household will have a reported fire in an average lifetime
• There is a one in ten chance someone in your household will suffer injuries related to a house fire. This could be from burns, smoke inhalation or other injuries related to fires.
• Households can expect a home fire every 15 years.

While most of these fires result in little or no damage and aren’t reported to a fire department – the potential for fires escalating out of control is present. Fires are a serious and dangerous threat to the well being of you and your family.

Fires can be caused from cooking accidents, home appliances malfunctioning, heaters, home fireplaces or LP home gas heating, candles, smoking materials or even lightening strikes. Fires move quickly – in fact once your fire alarm goes off you only have one or two minutes to flee before your life is in danger.

As fires can engulf your home in a matter of minutes so having an evacuation plan is extremely important for your safety. Generally a fire escape is a special type of emergency exit for multi storey buildings. These can be fixtures mounted to the outside of the building as an alternative route if the stairwells become inaccessible due to fires. These permanent fixtures are normally only mounted on building like apartments.

If your home does not have fixed fire escapes – then store an emergency fire escape ladder on the upper floors of your home. It is recommended to store them in each room for easy access.
